Fish not growing?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
you might need to stop buying fish from the place that you bough those fish! some LFS don't feed their fish to keep them at the same size! for young fish it might have stunt their grow, then when you buy them they will take a long time to grow and hardly grow to their full potential size!

Cava is a breeder from oregon, he gets his fish directly from the location point. My HRP is one of a group of 5 I got that are F2 Rio Danli, and the Carpinte is F2 from Vontehillo. They come from his breeding F1 pairs, I doubt he doesn't feed them, James isn't one to do that.

not growing is usualy only a problum if the fish looks thin or sick if otherwise thet appear healthy then they probly are . If you realy want them to grow then try more froven food.

How many hours per day are the aquarium lights on? *Seems to me that my fish seem to grow better with about 8 to 10 hours of aquarium lighting and extra aeration (not from extra filters, but from air stones/air pump). Extra aeration also seems to improve their coloration too.

My lights are on 10 hours a day (pleco actually eats all the algae - haven't had ANY since I got him), and I'll start feeding more and feeding different foods for a few weeks and see how that goes. I have frozen bloodworm cubes and beefheart cubes in the freezer, but I've heard beefheart just makes them fat.

Beefheart doesn't just make them fat, it is LOADED with protein and that's one of the best ways to make a fish grow. Higher temperatures also make fish grow faster, when i'm trying to grow fish, I keep my tanks at about 80-82 degrees. The other food I've used to make them grow faster is earthworms. Throw a couple earth worms a week in and they will grow. Just make sure you don't throw huge worms in or else they will over eat. I have had fish die with half a worm hanging out of their mouth because they refuse to let go. I chop them up into 1" pieces.

Feed a carpintis &/or an HRP beefheart? Perhaps the worst advice given in this discussion. To understand why that is, please read my comments in the following discussion.

Growth can be affected by a number of factors, diet, water quality, DO (dissolved oxygen) levels, hierarchy in the tank, and even genetics. Only a crystal ball could tell what the exact cause is in this case. Personally I would drop the Tetra food, double check 02 levels, and increase the total amount of food being offered on a daily basis.
