Fish not sharing genes?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I beg to differ Doug. Cross breeding, interbreeding, and hybridization can all mean the same the same thing.

For starters majority of South American Cichlids are incapable of hybridizing outside their genus. Central American Cichlids on the other hand should be able to hybridize among themselves.

I have never seen or heard of an Argentea hybrid but I know its possible.

Never seen Caquetaia (spelling?) sp. hybrids. Like umbee x Kraussii.

Crush329 - did you not see this one? I have not seen any Umbi or other Caquetia hybrids.

Ok, so for now we have two. Green Terror and Argentea

Green Terror has been successfully crossed with Blue Acaras many times. Being that they are in the same genus it makes sense.

Well in genetics (for which I'm partial to, being a geneticist and all), a hybrid is simply an offspring of two or more individuals that combines different genetic elements. So you're a hybrid of your mother and father. :P

Hmm, how much different are the genetics of a Red Devil and a Midas? The Bonobo Chimp is somewhere like 95+% similar to Humans. Who here is willing to try for a Monkey Boy?

Ok, as we continue we will get corrected. So Green Terror is off the list. Thanks

Well, you could mark Argentea off the list too. I have not seen one, but like Chris said I can bet it very possible...after all, the "horny" ex-Viejas can hybridize with most anything.

I had a Kamfa patterned a lot like an Umbee, but who knows.

Lol @ your monkey boy statement. Hey it's 2013... I'm sure it's been thought of or even tried and locked up in some laboratory somewhere. But who knows... well someone does! Lol
Ok, Argentea is off the list too. Thanks for the thread revival!
