fish only get as large as their aquariums??

I know someone who has a gar in a 90 gallon tank and its at 17" and has been that same size for the last 3 years that I've known him.. Arent gars supposed to get to 3ft+? I am not sure what type of gar it is but I dont know of any that stay under 2ft..

Thats a good point,I have had my Emperor cichlid for the past eight years or so,bought it at three inches and it lived in a 125 untill it could not turn around horizontaly in the tank.It has been in a 180 for the past three years where it has no trouble turning and it does not seem to gain any more size though.It gets regular water changes and eats Hkari pellets.
