As some of you may know I made a thread about the new tank I was getting. After some thinking I decided to go for a smaller predator tank (my parents didnt like it, they are more into colorful fish and most predatory fish tend to be less colorful).
Originally planned to make an African Biotope with my 2 Albino Senegals but I do like variety so now I am open to all fish suggestions !
Now I know its hard but would also be neat to include some colorful predatory fish you know of in this list.
Thanks in advance !
Tank dimension will be 120 x 45 x 45 cm.

Cichlids are a fun game to get into, eba for example would get along well with the bichirs and is not very predatory, but a cichlid nonetheless.
A shoal of tiger barbs is quite mean.
I never really thought of it, there really aren’t many colorful predators - at least small ones that get along with bichirs.

Guess so, I thought about Green Terrors and Jack Dempseys too but are those too aggressive ? Not that huge of a fan of Acaras.

Your tank would be just large enough for jack dempsey. Green terror would need 1.5m.
But i wouldnt recommend it. I thought u already had some cichlids and angelfish?
the thing is if you put in a cichlid that just barely fits in the tank. he or she is gone claim the whole tank as its territorium. That would mean that if you have a couple the whole tank will be dead if they start defending youngs. If you only get one it might work but its gone be hard to put anything else with it.

Are you still gone get the ropefish etc? Or did your parents talk you out of it?
Sucks man.

Nah they like Bichirs funny enough so Ropefish still on the list. I can still add What I want but we planning on putting the larger tank in the living room so something they also enjoy watching would be nice. I only have a single Angelfish rn btw
So no cichlids got it. What would be some other fish ?

i didnt say no cichlids. Just saying that big /territorial ones might not be so smart in this tank size.
Can we see a picture of the tank?
Maybe get 3/4 more angelfish? they are group animals and cichlids

Oh I havent gotten the tank yet the fish are in a temporary 40 Breeder. I will get it in few months and just wanted to do some research and learn about fish because I might need to order them early from the LFS they take months to arrive.

first get the tank, dont order the fish before. If you get them before the tank is set up properly you only risk them dying and you wouldnt wane stuff more fish in a 40breeder tank. You will need to cycle the new tank anyway for 2 months before putting in new fish. I would throw in the fish from the 40 breeder immediately in the 1.2meter when you get the tank since you will growstunt them in a 40 breeder and the changes of them dying in a 40 tank is more likely then a new 1.2meter tank probably. Do put all the old water of the 40breeder in the new tank and squeeze the filter in the tank out. Might look muddy but its better for the fish since it wont be cycled if you put them in immediately. Squeezing the filter out and adding old water out of 40 tank will help cycle the new tank faster.

After that you should by the guide book wait 2months and then get the fish you want. You could also get them in shorter then 2 months but i would advise to atleast wait a month with the tank running before adding any new bought fish.

Huh ok.
Rn the only fish in the 40B are 2 Albino Senegals and an Angelfish with Rainbow Shark so doubt they will be stunted.
I already have a canister and big sponge filter cycled and with the help of moving the substrate and decorations along with plants mean cycling wont be an issue. I plan on selling the 40 Breeder after setting up the 120cm tank and moving everything in it.
Dont worry I dont plan on getting any more fish in my 40B. I said order because by the time they come to the LFS I probably will have the tank ready but can wait I guess no problems.

You should keep the breeder tank or get a smaller one (even a plastic storage tote will work) as a quarantine tank for any new fish you get for the larger tank. Don't make the mistake of not quarantining your fish for a period of time (longer than 2 weeks).
