i drove by a fish store the other day ive never been in so decided to stop. as soon as i opened the door the smell was horrible. i pushed on and could not believe my eyes. the inside of this store looked like something from the show hoarders. There were literally hundreds of absolutly filthy tank, many with out even filtration or pumps. as i looked around i saw a red tail catfish that was at least 3 feet long in a stagnant 55g, another 55 had 2 carp in it close to three feet, and a 29g with 11 1foot gars. this is just a few of the ones that stuck in my mind, but there are many more. the whole thing seemed really disturbing and i keep feeling like i should call someone or something. what do you think?

Honestly, these types of threads are quite useless and take up needed space. Call BBB or someone who can make a difference about it if it bothers you. Otherwise, just don't stop at the shop anymore.

Might try the county or city animal control people. Unfortunately in most places if the animal is not a mammal nothing is done about that kind of treatment.

I particularly find it interesting that people use a fish forum to slag stores.

I will not give advice either way as there is no way of validating what you are saying.

I do find it interesting that there are 3 ft long fish in a 55g sort of shoots down the whole stunt concept. Unless the fish have been placed there for holding.

Exactly what I was thinking! Again, if it bothers you that bad, call someone, don't blab it on here, it takes up a thread that could be informative or interesting...... And yet, I'm stilll contributing.

no way a 3ft red tail would be in a 55. at 2ft they are as wide as one. Trust me if I but my 2 footer in a 55 it would be cracked in a few min. He freaked out in a 40gal rubbermaid while I was moving him to the new pond.

Wow guys, way to bash the OP for doing absolutely nothing. If anything I think he should have put the name of the place so we know to avoid it...

Fish are in small tanks for holding at pet shops all the time. That doesn't mean they live there. I recently bought a 20-22 inch TSN at Shark Aquarium in NJ. He was in something like a 40 breeder and Ive never seen a healthier, more lively TSN.

Shark Aquarium uses an other-worldly amount of filtration;)

no I agree there is nothing wrong with starting this thread. Just saying I dont think a rtc of that size would tolorate a 55. Anyway are you sure it wasn't just a distribution hub? like a place that imports than ships out right away?
