fish store manager

I worked for a Petland for about six years and I can confirm that although most of the employees had a basic understanding of how to keep fish the training was very minimal. Do NOT depend on LFS employees for accurate information. In my experience if you give them a question they don't know the answer to they will BS you so they can still make the sale and not look stupid. Do your research at home.

Ive had idiot LFS employees give me horrible advice just like this. They dont ever consider what you currently have in your tank nor how big the fish will get. They only care if you buy it and leave. They dont care once if the fish they are selling will destroy everything in your tank you spent tons of money on. I cant even imagine how many people LFS employess have caused problems for by telling them to put a fish in their tanks.

Good thing I know better, or they would take me for a ride too.

im finding it so amazing at how people jump to conclusions that i dont know anything about fish keeping or that im just an impulse fish keeper take this thread for example there are those that seem to think im an idiot for putting the three fish in with my zebra and johani except my study of them on the net told me that they were fish eaters and a knowledgeable lfs employee figured they would do ok in the 55 for 2-4 weeks while i set up the next tank here but contrary to what my studies showed me these fish acted different that what i found on the net and dont we all have fish that act with their own personality contrary to what the books say and so these fish end up getting bully beaten to the point that the biggest ended up being to beat up an he died but the other two are doing fine in my 75g geo tank of the which i rehomed two of my geos the smallest into my corner tank so as to make sure they did not become lunch

now here it is i have my latest tank a 100g planted here and i will set it up and get it rolling so that i can place this fish in it

a zebra tilapia that i rehomed since it was surrendered to the lfs

i do find it so very interesting the way some people look at others fish keeping for example when im at another lfs with my 8 year old son hebron he so desperately wants me to get some eels an knife fish he sees so i get them and when i tell people what i got here it comes like i dont know how big they get when i know full well that the knife fish get very big and what is so funny is i know full well that i will eventually have to put them in a 150g plus but at 3-4 inches they will do fine in a 75g but apparently one must immediately have the full tank for the 3-4 inch fishy lololololol

now here he is with his fish and why should i deny him when i have 15 tanks running and he has wanted the eel type fish for ages

so if some of my smaller fish get eaten well such is the way of the fish but im pretty sure that that wont happen in the week it will take me to fast track this 100g for my tilapia and then i can put them in the tilapias old tank

it is most intriguing to me how some opinions expressed by others in the hobby seems like to them that it must be law

how is it that regular wc some done 2 / week and tanks that are fine with fish that are vibrant and healthy is a sign of a bad fish keeper especially when my only tank crash thus far has been my fry grow out tank that had a pictus cat die in it an i did not find it for a few days and its decaying body caused a massive spike in the water chemistry

i am very interested to know such things

Haps may hunt them, but who said that mbuna would not hurt them? Haps never fair well with mbuna close to their size, too aggressive. Did you think to ask anyone here? Try the african rift section?

chef, in this thread you say that you had looked into the fish species online before buying them, and were convinced that they would work OK. The manager was confirmed what you thought. But when it went poorly, the blame was on the manager.

Bit silly no?

Fish are independant lifeforms and there is no guarentee that one individual fish is going to be the same as another of the same species. Most often a fishs personality is a reflection of it's surroundings and coinhabitants. Add in size, past history, health... really it's just trial and error every time you put two or more fish together. Just too many variables.

So i've come to the realisation that every change I make to my tank is on my own shoulders, be the outcome good or bad, regardless weather I received good or poor advice. In the end I did it to my tank.

What are those eel-like fish that your son is holding? Look pretty cool. Lets have some more photos!

my son implored me to get him those they are peacock eels an the the clown knifes and i got myself two severums just to see how they do
