Hi guys,

We need to have a logo for our prospective venture named Fish Story Aquarium and Rescue, or Fish Story for short. I've had one since 2015 but couldn't use it for anything other than say the tiny MFK avatar because the owner of the RTC painting I picked couldn't let us use it for free. I will post the avatar below as a sample.

Long story short, I am inclined to keep the overall design as is but with an attractive image (a painting or a photograph) that'd be free from copyright issues. I too am open to serious ideas from anyone who was willing to share.

If you know great photographers, artists or designers on MFK, who might donate an image or a design, I'd appreciate you letting them or me know.

Thank you.
Viktor

PS I am not fond of the rectangle shape of this logo. It'd look better more squarish or round, kind of like it is in the MFK avatar.

I think the red tailed catfish is possibly one of the most iconic fish in the world of monster fish keeping, and seen as you already have it in your avatar, is that the species of fish you'd rather go for in your final logo?

A side on view of any fish will always give the image a longer "stretched out" look, so the rectangular or squashed oval shape would be hard to avoid.

However, a front on view of a red tailed cat, with its cavernous mouth and feelers, and then wrapping the wording around the image, so to speak, would certainly give you your preferred circular logo.

Is it a real life quality picture you want, as in photograph quality, or a decent quality artists interpretation which looks as life like as possible, or would a cartoony type image suffice?

Personally I think the logo you already have is great, it's a shame you can't use it, though I agree with you that the rectangular shape could be improved upon.

I look forward to seeing how your new logo comes to fruition.

I like your idea. Make it a mean-looking cat!

Put that paraiba in there
A few things going against it:

- it's not a flashy, strikingly-colored fish, like the RTC, just big, which from the logo stand point is rather weak
- it's not an instantly recognizable poster child kind of fish for the hobby, for the rescue
- I lack equipment and skill to make a useable high quality photo (I draw and paint ok and could draw or paint it but lack time badly)

Maybe your large aro surronded by Redtails, like the aro is the sun and the reds are the sun rays. It is round and totally fits.
:) Thank you for the idea. I am afraid it'd look bizarre; I am more for the natural looks. Plus too many small details will be lost / hard to figure out in a relatively small logo image.

It very well can be.

Right. The avatar is the same picture I attached in the OP. I had only compressed it in the length direction to make squarish, then the MFK gave it the round shape automatically.

It's logical. Thank you. IDK if the picture would be as striking. It could be, or could be not. Also, I'm not fond of the "monster" meaning or feel. In fact I dislike it / tolerate it as I have no control over it on MFK (probably for the better). Talked with Koltsixx about this at length back in the day, remember Kolt? :)

Whichever, photo or drawing/painting, but rather not cartoonish (again I like natural but it may not matter what I like). The current RTC image in the logo is a painting by a painter / fish aficionado Mr. Derek Redwine.

Thank you. Derek says he could make a very similar image for me for $350, a heavily discounted price because we are a rescue. Well, he told me this back in 2015 when I approached him about this.
