Fish Suggestions for my Little Bro

A pair of convicts were the first thing that came to mind. Although they may not eat to many other fish, he can still feed them red wigglers and wax worms. They are plenty aggressive, hardy, and can easily be bred in a 30.

Its sure fun to watch when they were in breeding mode or defending territory..any fish enter territory will only ask for trouble..
 
I would have to say Senegal bichir aswell but when they eat live food they usually take a while to find it if it is a fish. If you dump some ghost shrimp or something in there it'll be a little more interesting. I love bichirs but usually with an 8 year old they want something that moves around a little more then a bichir does. I would say convicts mainly for the movement matter. Convicts IME are you typical fish that will move around and be a fish, but will also be that aggressive predator that fits the profile for an 8 year old. They are also useful because of the fry and how many they make. Another reason I would say cons is just incase it's just a temporary fad. I know I have those all the time with fish. I will see one that I like and research to no end and right when I go to pick one up I loose interest or see that it just won't work. For an 8 year old cons would be better because of that reason and just incase he were to loose interest you don't have a lot of time or money wasted.
