FISH TANK KINGS OR TANKED?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I've only seen Tanked and I think its ok. I like the way they show them building the tanks but I wish they would do freshwater setups more often. The only fw tank I've seen them do is one with angelfish and rainbowfish for the pinball machine tank. Itd be cool to see some fw monsters for once with a buyer who knows fish and knows what he's doing instead of someone who wants a big tank just to make his house look nicer.

I don't like the way they fake all the drama on that show too. like on that pinball episode, they break the glass on the pinball machine and its so obviously faked. They did it so they could have the guys argue and make it seem like they just barely completed the project on time. Those guys are pretty bad actors too. And I wish they would spend more time on building the sump because that always gets glossed over.

Care is turned over to the owners. They are responsible for all care and are provided information as much as they want. In today's day and age, there is NO excuse for not having any information you need. Look at all the smart phones in that video. Anyone one of them can pull up Google and figure out how to take care of a fish tank.
Just like getting a car... you can't blame the dealer if you don't take care of it and it breaks.

While i do agree its normally up to the owners to research these things, but in these cases do the owners pick the fish or the guys who run the show?

The reason i ask is, if the customer doesnt really know what they are getting how do they know what to search...

Plus, im going to play devils advocate and say, how much effort would it be for these guys just to say btw, this is the basic run down on feeding these guys... And go into it....

It depends on the owner. If they want things hand picked for them, an experience person will do so. If they want to hear input, it will be provided. If they want to pick their own fish, they will do so. Anyway they chose to do it, it is up to the person signing the check at the end of the day. All customer's are given the option to have the run down given to them. Most of the people with tanks built on this level also hire out the actual work to a maint team. They don't see them as tanks like we do in the hobby. They just want something pretty to look at. All are also supplied with an operation manual for the system.

^ true, i've seen my fair share of amazing display tank tanks in stores, but as you said, most hire professionals to do maintenance...

I haven't seen any of these shows and I really have no desire too, with all the videos of tanks on youtube and all the photos and videos here of real caring aquarists what is the point in watching some scripted bull****?

as far as I have known its a bunch of dumb loud Americans shouting about how the tank will be so awesome and to me thats just not interesting. jeremy Wade should ***** slap the cast of both shows.
if you honestly met people like them at an LFS how would you react to them?

Also Zoodiver I've been getting some subtle hints that perhaps you are on one of the shows either as crew or cast?

Ironically, that show is just as scripted as Tanked/FTK.

I've done various fish/shark/croc related things in front of and behind TV cameras. Both in 'reality' TV, actual (live) TV and scripted drama/action shows and movies over the years.
