So about a month ago my fish tank started smelling really bad and it smelt fine before and I hadn't changed anything, I've tried everything, I have a 55g and I do weekly 25-35% water changes, I've tried carbon and it didn't help, I run a AC 70 with 2 sponges and one pack of bio ceramics, I can't figure out what's wrong it's especially annoying because the tank is in my bedroom, Any help would be appreciated.:D

Have any fish gone missing? I had the same problem and it turned out a fish I thought jumped or got eaten had died underneath one of my decorations and was causing the smell

sure there isnt a dead fish behind the tank ? Run a crap ton of carbon ! Also how long did you run it for ? Try dumping in some "Prime"

Do a water test and report results. Sounds like a dead fish somewhere or an ammonia spike. If you are running a heater I'd check up on that, too.

I agree checking parameters will tell you if something is off, my guess is a dead fish / left over food (i.e market prawns) or something along those lines...

Maybe you should bump up your wanterchanges to round 50% weekly (maybe twice a week till the smell goes away) , using carbon to remove the smell is a bad idea as its can cover a darker problem, do a water change instead as it will do the same thing and give your fish clean water to swim in and its cheaper!, and also healthy tank wont smell (mine dont) so i would advise checking your water and look for missing fish and clean your filter like everyone else said.
