I used nls and I used one of those refillable AC bags and filled it as full as I could with carbon and let it filter for a week.

Clear water doesn't mean safe water. It sounds like an Ammonia problem. You're going to have to invest in some form of a test kit to find out.
Without some water tests I think all the suggestions have been covered. You need a test kit.
Do you have any fish currently in the tank? If so are they acting normal or showing any kind of stress?

I'm guessing dead fish or pieces of it trapped somewhere in the tank OR the filter. Turn your tank over and take your filter apart to see where is the culprit. First clue should be water is relatively warmer than usual and your water parameters in haywire.
