Fish that like turbulent water?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
2 related species that are not benthic rheophiles I just got into that really enjoy the flow are leporinus and anostomus. Torpedo shaped and cut through the current. and keep mine in a 75 gallon.
I have kept some Barbarta candidianus (Taiwan Horse Mouth) and Acrossocheilus parallens and Zacco platypus. These guys seem to relish the current and are skittish without it. Their Tank Thread can be found here.
This was a previous hillstream community setup with some of the fish above and sewellia.
Another nice little species that seems to enjoy the flow and is not a bottom huggers is Laubaka dadibujori.
There are also many, many gobies, such as rhinogobius and stiphodons etc that do seem to enjoy a decent water current in their setups.

There are some really cool benthic cichlids that live in currents from Africa such as Lamprologus, Steatocranus, Teleogramma to name a few genera. They are great looking fish.

Adding roseline sharks to this thread. Although mine do spend a fair amount of time in the rest zone of the tank, they don't have any problems swimming against the >42x turnover (20,000 l/hr on a 473 liter tank) from the 3 Sicce pumps.

my rhoadsia enjoy turbulent water. So do dawkinsia although I no longer keep those.

I also noticed interesting fry rearing behavior from my HRPs when kept in high flow.
