Fish with Arowana - bottom

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I don't keep catfish so I've got none to recommend, but I've heard that they are excellent clean up crews as they'll eat almost everything.

Gravel is okay for a ray. It's not ideal but they will do fine.

Ok, I just made little research on the interent about ray. They are beutifull and very intersting. What kind of ray is the smallest. Please don't tell me that the smallest is the most expensive. I sow on aquabid some of them for couple thousand :(

You got it! Smallest tends to be the priciest besides black rays. Otherwise retics stay pretty small and that is around 24"-30"+ (tip to tail). And they aren't at all that expensive. There is also Scobinas and Hystrix as well. Take a look in the Stingray forum and read the sticky made by Miles.

Smallest isnt MOST expensive, but its still quite expensive and nearly impossible to get right now. Smallest would be scobinas. $500 for 5" disc diameter. They grow to about 15" disc with another 15" tail so all in all you could keep one for like a something 3' wide. Hystrix are also really hard to get and are still pretty expensive, but they grow up to around the same size. Then you got the retics, which are the one of the cheapest rays as they're only about $50. They stay somewhat small, but you'll still be needing a 4' to keep it for life for it to fully extend its tail. And where the HECK is miles, hes been gone for so long...

OK, Thanks !!!

I try to find some ray that you wrote about. It will be not easy but I try. If not I buy Bichirs. I hope my 8-9" Black Arowana will not eat Bichirs. How many I shoud buy for my tank (180 gal, 1 Pleco 12" + 1 Black Arowana 8-9") and is there any kind Bichir that will be the best for me, for my tank ?

Thank you one more time for help !

How much filtration do you have on the tank? That is what will decide how many and what size you can keep.

to enhance biological filtration
4. Main Sump Reservoir

calcium reactors or fluidized chambers
5. Pump Chamber
Designed to accommodate most submersible pumps
6. Sump Cover
Reduces evaporation & helps quiet sump sound

Thank you for reply :)

Well, depending on how large you want your water changes to be, you could probably safely add half a dozen bichirs. Which ones you choose will ultimately be up to you and your tastes and availability. I prefer ornates and endlicheri, and they both get to be quite large. But there are many types, achieving different sizes as adults. There are some good stickies in the bichir section that will help you. :)
