It must be a regional thing like style and fashion. All of those fish on your list are available at my favourite LFS. The pantodons are only around for a couple of months a year as they are usually wild caught.
I'm sure that if you express interest at your LFS, they will bring in a few of the 'old standbys' that may have fallen out of local favour. The trick I think is to have a lot of variety for the punters to choose from.
:iagree:
most are farily common around here except the geos and rainbows.

I agree with the Black Aro's but was suprised to see them, with Yoke Sacks, at a LFS. Emp said the distributor labeled them as Silvers but I am pretty sure they are black, have the yellow stripe across the body, dark grey/black body, and black lower fins. They were only $24.99 at 1.75inches, so I picked up both. The last time I saw one was about 5 months ago but it was a 8-9inch one and the store (they charge alot for their fish) wanted $300 for it.

Never see Guinacara round here... I ordered "Geo Surinamensis" from a LFS a while back and got 4 of these little guys.. they all turned bright orange and died.
then i went back to the same lfs and saw one remaining for sale... for sum reason i bought this one.. and hes doing great. I never told the store i hated the order i recieved.. i just bit my lip, and said thanks.. that way i'll keep my Emp. discounts! even though i dont work there.

same here i see them all the time
maybe u should be asking your LFS to order

Thats what I thought when I got back into the hobby. But after a while of looking around I managed to find everything. Its a matter of not having as many well stocked petstores as there used to be.petsmart, petco walmart and internet ran most of the lfs out of business years ago.Takes a bit of searching but youll find everything. Also seek out club auctions.Lots of hobbists breeding now,Ive been to a few club auctions in the last year that ran 6+ hours with hundreds of bags of fish

The 3 walmarts near me stopped selling Pacu all-together. :irked:

I guess its a good thing for the people who are told they are not Pacu, but Red-Bellied Tin Foil Barbs.
