necrocanis is the man for fish skulls pm him ;)

You check gator gar? Looks like it has that same stout nose and the large teeth seem to match...It kinda looks like a reticulated python skull or something of the sort also...

Chad

not a retic. and not a pike either. however I cant Id it. what feeds the lake? also what part of FL is it in? I know I have caught tons of various fish in the run off ditches in south FL, tons of gar, tilapia, pleco'Jack Dempseys ,and ect...
I have also caught baracuda in the lakes around there aswell when they were close to running into or from the river. however I dont think thats what it is either.

It could be a pickeral. I believe chain and/or grass pickeral live down there.

For the gar use a piece of stringy nylon rope for bait. Their teeth will get hung up in the rope alot easier then a hook can pierce their bony mouths!

Ive also caught alot of gar while fishing for other fish with circle hooks for some reason. Another technique is to use braided line and a small light wire panfish hook. Use live minnows for bait. Once the gar takes the bait let him swim with it for a LONG time. He will swallow the bait hook and all.

i try not to leave hooks lol.just like the fight.

and one other thing about this lake/gar.
i have been netting for over a year and never once caught a baby gar,but this lake is slap full of them.whats the deal with that?

If you use those small light wire hooks theyll rust out in a matter of days and cause the fish no harm.

As far as the skull goes, just because you have not caught one doesnt mean they are not there. You may have red-fin pickerel (esox americanus) who only lives in north Florida confused with the chain pickerel who is found in the entire state.
