I fish ALOT my self. I have yet to catch a few species of fish (chain pickerel included) but that doesnt mean I dont think they exist in their native range. Unless you live in the keys you live were Esox niger is found so apparently you need to spruce up your fishingskills

Besides how could a seasoned fisherman not know the rope trick to catch gar?!

If it were more rounded I would go with bowfin, but as pointy as it is, unless there are mackerel in that pond, I have to agree with chain pickerel.

Oh another thought crossed my mind!

It could be a mackeral like alex said.

My family has a boat down there and after we have cleaned the fish we usually walk to the swamp behind the house and dump the guts to feed to foxs and what not. Are there alot of houses near you? It could be the remains of a fishermans catch.
