Well ok, alittle intro - I'm a Power Pro user and I fish mainly artificials, my first choice are weedless frogs then crankbait and spinners/buzz baits and finally rubberworms. The majority of all our fishing is done from shore, walking around a lake or along creeks. My buddy has a Coleman Crawdad that seats two with a electric trolling motor, so no we don't fish Okeechobee. Though we have venture out into a few bays and mangrove swamps with it.

My buddy also is a straight up strict artificial fishmen, this guy I sh*t you not buys or has bought every lure offered by BASS PRO in the last 5 years. More about him later.

Coleman Crawdad.

Here's a beast that I laid into one morning out on the lake across the street from my folks place.

And here is a shot of one of "my" favorite places to fish - my buddy doesn't like reptiles of any type, least of all snakes. He bought snake boots for is son and himself, but rarely ever wears them - though they cost like $200 each. As for me I wear saddles in the boat and sneakers everywhere else, I only fear Fire Ants!

The above shot was taken with my cellphone otherwise I would be able to take a wider shot and you could that there was like 50 gators out there that day. Which made using a weedless frog all the more fun and interesting. Lower Myakka.

But actually the last shot was taken just after first light in the morning. And if memory serves me correctly there was at least 15+ gators on the banks piled atop one another resting. We had to walk back into the brush and around them because as stated before my buddy is totally afraid of gators and snakes. On our return I just kept walking towards them until they all raced into the water, because I wasn't making the ankle deep mud walk again, just to avoid a few gators.

In the almost twenty yrs I've been going to Florida I only had 3 problems with gators and I probably get a lot closer to them than most people do. And actually really only 2 problems the third one was totally my fault, I didn't look before I jumped. But that's another story.

Okay thanks. I asked because it seems to me that the same gator that runs from you during the day will go right towards you at night.

I had this happen twice while fishing at night in area I wont fish anymore (it was for cat fish) .

It was just a theory and like all me theorys it has a 50/50 chance of being right lol.

"buddy is totally afraid of gators and snakes."

I to am afraid of gators NOT snakes in the slightest but gators I fear which is why I fish off dry land and only day light.

Yeah those are some nice numbers, I really have a hard time remembering how many fish we caught a week after my trip. But the guy I fish with, he takes the counting bit to a whole new level. This guy keeps a rolling record of all the fish he's caught. The lures he caught them on, the day of the month etc,. tally each month up and can tell you what lures work best at what times of the year. I still have an Excel spread sheet he did back in 2006 showing a total of 2.595 LMB caught for 2006. And where there are unreal amounts for that month during the year is when I am down for vacation, because we fish hard core when I'm in Florida. On the water by 6:45am break for lunch at noon~1pm, fishing again 2:30pm to 6:30~7pm. I tell him forget this retirement crap start a Bass touring service.

I have gone on what can best be called commando trips, which is always at night, which in Florida means you can hardly see you hand in front of your face, until your eyes adjust to the moon lit night.

The scariest thing about catching fish at night is you know the gators are there you can sometimes see there eyes glistening from the moon light, you can also hear them splashing about as they feed. They will go after splashing fish, night fishing generally produces large fish. So you have your fight then when the fish is nearing the banks you gotta either rip it up the bank 5ft~6ft or go down to the water edge and get it. (I wouldn't advise doing the latter). Another reason I use 30lbs power pro.

While I may get startled by stuff I only fear Humans and Spiders!, I can deal with the rest.

Everywhere we fish there are gators, I try and avoid snakes when my friend is there for two reason most common snake seen while fishing are Cottonmouths. They're a snake with an attitude. While other snakes make a run for it so to speak. Cottonmouths in almost every encounter I've had come towards you. And I'll get bitten because I'll be rolling around on the ground laughing as my retired State Trooper buddy is climbing a tree:nilly::ROFL:

cichlid fiend - are you in south Jersey or north?
