dam has 18 gates open, river isnt even worth trying unless there 10 or less open and even then you better pack the big sinkers. this rain needs to quit and wait till summer time.

i normally use 3-4oz, i like my bait to sit still so the catfish can find it. especially when fishing live baits for flatheads and channels. The 18 gates will move even my heaviest 8oz sinkers, so fishing is no good. They drift and get hung up. the water is so muddy all the other fish wouldnt even bite.
some gates are okay, the best is like 4-6 halfway open. The rockfish feed the best then. This is also tidal water so they feed good on the moving tides also. lots of things come into play. I think thats why i like fish it so much. If you the get moon, tide, and dam to work together you'll have an amazing day of fishing.
as of right now, we are at flood stage = which means my pier is underwater and the probably too much waves/current to get the anchor to stick with the boat.

Fishing the White River tomorrow. Our state record flathead and carp came out of there. Its pretty polluted so I don't fish there too often since i like to eat the fish. However, I plan to fish there more because of the potential size of the fish and the sport of it. Catch and release only on that cesspool.
