FISHING SEASON 2K11!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Went a few times last week,trying some new lures and new spots.
Session 1 resulted in an awesome double hook up with 2 medium sized perch,a small 14inch pike and a 24inch pike.
Yesterday resulted in a 28inch and a small perch.

This is the first time I have fished this spot, however I scouted it out last year. Water levels have to be down to walk across the shallow of a lake to cross it to gain access to this river so it has to be a late summer/fall spot. Had high hopes for it since I spotted it. Temp was in the high 40's so the bite was a bit slow but this area has potential to hold 50# and up potentially with reports of mid 30's coming from up a tributary a few miles. Fully expect warmer weather or the fall feed in a couple weeks to produce nights of nice multiple catches. Fish didn't run, it was odd. Had a nice bullhead on there and my rod shifted hard followed by a pull and then slack line, a pull then slack line... not pulling the clicker at all. I was convinced it was a gar at first. Turned clicker off and freespooled it and it took off and the fight was on. Caught on the new Ming Yang reel. Power handle was real nice.

Fished weighed in at 15lbs 14 oz, though I thought at first sight it was gonna go 20. easy.

nice fish man, definitly looks more than 15.

i got one small flat last night and a handful of decent channels. nothing to brag about.
maybe next weekend!

its always worth bragging about any fish, especially multiple catches! I have been a one fish wonder all year (well since July since I was always skunked before that!). Of course I only use big baits and am rarely rigged up for channels. Once I catch one, I may as well pack up! Plan to get to the previous spot a couple times before I head to FL on the 4th and am positive I will have hundreds of catches to talk about then.

maybe its the channels in my area but they are trying to eat 5-6" gills/perch or nice sized pieces of cutbait. i like to use bigger baits to keep eels, small cats, and etc away.

I was disappointed to find that a 5 lb channel ate a nice size bluegill several weeks ago as well. Sometimes those channels just get so eager haha. Although a 10 plus channel is never something to be disappointed in either. I'll take little channels over nothing everytime. I've had a lot of luck on bullheads lately though. They stay lively for so long.

guess ill have to go find some. the pond i used to catch my bullheads/green sunnies at was drained. it is in the middle of a local park but theyve added a pier along one side and many "fish habitats". its starting to refill from all the rain and hopefully restocking it soon. i have to add a few fish of my own to give it a boost.

good idea to help boost it along Those are two of my favorite baits for sure. The creek that I get bullheads from is awesome. I throw on a treble hook and some livers and can consistently pull them out faster than I could bluegill. Often before the bait even hits the bottom, I can feel them bumping it.

any cat is a nice fish, had a 5" bluegill out there on sat i thought i had a flat but ended up being a nice channel, got some nice blues too on live bluegills and cutbait...

would love to get into some blues sometime. Nearest area to fish them is a bit far and would require some serious planning but those rascals get huge! I do enjoy finding flatheads though as I feel like it is a bit of a "hunt" since they are mostly solitary and relate to a specific environment.
