FISHING SEASON 2K12!!!!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
+1 to find out line capacity and drag etc for those aresenals, at $35 a piece that has to be a solid investment haha

THey can be easily replaced for that price if they go bad too! Shakespeare typically makes a decent product for good prices, so I wouldn't expect these to be any different.

i had one of the 8 foot ugly cats and broke it trying to hoss a 5lb channel onto the pier, never do that anymore. But i went with the 7's for the same reason.

the guy that has helped us out and took us out before has the same setups for flatheads. I couldnt believe it when i saw it, the exact same reel and the same rod.

Its a great reel, but i this is all i can find on the website i got them from.

mine is made with a stainless steel frame and gears, looks like they are using graphite now? Maybe you could find them on ebay. 330 yds of 20 lb with a 4.2/1 gear ratio. I got about 180 yds of 40 on mine i think or something close to that maybe less. these reels have caught me a 23lb flathead is the biggest so far, hoping this year to get a 30+ and im sure they could handle it. I got the first one late 2010, october ish. The other 2 i got last august. I cannot tell which one is which though as they all work the same.

the Ugly cats are under rated for sure. They can pull in nice fish. I went with the TWC and War rod for my flathead rods this year since I will be fishing a lot of dams and rocky, snaggy areas. The TWC is probably too stiff for slow water and reservoirs, which I will use my Ugly cats for those :) I do worry about the soft tip on those for hook sets which is another reason that I switched rods. I plan to use more Kahle and sickle hooks this year. Holding the rod in my hand and waiting for it to load up on the circle hooks and wondering if I should reel or not stresses me out!

If I was in the market for a NON Abu reel, I would look to shakespeare before Ming Yang at this point. I traded a Ming for my second TWC, but still have one in blue. Going to put it on my Glowstik and it probably wont get used much because I dont like that rod that much either. However, I have not personally had one problem with them and it might look really neat on a TWC with the matching blue.

Ill probably just hang on to it since the used one got traded for a rod. I put it on the TWC and it looks pretty neat. I would try to steer you towards an Abu 7000 series though. If you are wanting to save some $$ maybe an Omoto, but check out catfishingpro.com and see what all they have on there about the Mings. After my disagreement with Paul, I've spent a bit of time over there. He seems to erase A LOT of what people say if its not 100% positive about those reels. I don't like that. But, I have had nothing but fine experience with the reel that I did use.

Definitely seems like a bit of a conflict of interest running a tackle business and a catfish forum. A few weeks ago, I asked a legitimate question about a catfishing rod from bottom dwellers tackle and immediately he PM'd me and told me to keep that $h*t off of his site. Very discouraging that you cant get all of the catfishing questions that you want answered from that site because of the owner.

so im feelin a little better now... but... 20mph winds >_> was thinking about going to the lake down the street for some dink catfish but with that wind its lookin like im still stuck being a bum.. such a wonderful spring break, with my luck ill go back to half dead tonight haha

Got my casting reels all lined up.

Flathead rods have 50lb power pro hi vis yellow and 30lb Berkley Big game. Going to be using Gama Big River hooks and Kahle style on flatties.

Channel cat rods have 15lb Berkley big game and 4/0 Gama octopus circles.
