I went out this morning to test out my new abu garcia baitcaster. First time ever using a baitcaster. I threw on a rapala minnow rap I think its called. Im terrible at casting this rod and im trailing the weed lines reeling in and a fat 1lb largemouth slams it. She was conpletely full of eggs. No pics because I forgot my phone.

NCSTATE sometimes it helps to let them take it an extra second. I cant tell you how many hooks i've pulled getting too excited. sometime it seems like they want to run with it for a second and then stop to eat it, other time they engulf it as soon as they hit it.
I'm gonna have to figure this guy out man, I know where his hole is and its near the corner of the falls under a huge rock.. So I want to let him take it but both times he's hit he's sucked it in and not really given me much of an opportunity to let him run necessarily because I think he's just bringing it back in to his hole.. I really think this time he almost rocked me like a grouper, my buddy thought I was snagged my pole was bent so bad and my line was frayed all the way up past the leader above the swivel so he was tearing me around on some rocks.. but i am gonna try to let him take it more next time like you said. gonna get a 5" bluegill or so and just let him sit right there for a while and if/when he takes it i'm gonna try to be patient! i will catch this dang fish i want one bad lol!
Went today to a little pond, I mean little. I caught one small little guy and another one the size if my friends but he flopped in from the bank.

Nothing big so far this year for the most part. Thats the smallest fish I caught today I believe its a pumpkinseed.
I caught very small fish today and about a 1lb bass was the biggest. She was full of eggs too.
Heres another bass I caught after I grabbed my phone to go back fishing.
And a nicer sunny
Nothing too good today. Still have litterally no idea how to use a baitcaster lol. I think I got the basics down, but I cant cast farther than 15-20 feet. I have 15 pound test stren line on it. Its an abu garcia hank parker baitcaster thats 7'. Not sure if its just me or baitcasters in general but I just cant get it to go far without getting a series of knots or a birds nest. Any advice?
