Thats an awesome looking bowfin. Id love to catch something like that. Im bowfinless at the moment I was trying to catch them but I couldnt
If you can see them just tickle their nostrils with what ever jig you got. They will get pissed and eat it. Works 99% of the time. My last 30" female bowfin I got I got it that way.

Jigs? Ive been using ceankbaits, spinners, lures and just about everything didnt try any jigheads. Ive gotta try that this weekend
My fav for bowfins was always a floating top water rapala. Gold color for stained, white color for clear. Biggest bowfin was 27" caught at 1pm on a sunny day lol.
Jigs work great because you can piss them off with them. They are one of the few fish you can see get pissed and bite something out of rage. One other thing that works great is to get dead suckers, hook them through the head and drag them on the bottom. Bowfin love that as well. You can catch them on anything though. That 30" fish was on 2lb test by the way

Wow! Ive heard of bowfin snapping 20 lb test like its nothing thats unreal!
What is really gonna blow your mind is when I tell you I pulled that fish out of docks from a local slip marina. So many poles and boat props to cut me off in but I got her in.
