Well if you are catching tilapia, green sunfish, bullheads, carps and plenty of mosquitofish suggests that this area holds hardy, tolerant and undesireable fish which means the habitat isn't good for sensitive, rare and desireable fish.

A nuisance fish means a fish that is too small or unacceptable or bothersome to the anglers. Green sunfish, bullheads and carps fit this.

A professional angler doesn't like those fish, it's true. But you can eat a larger bullhead, specific species of carp in low quantities do help with vegetation control (specifically hydrilla here in florida) and I'm sorry, but kids and myself and many like just going out and catching some panfish because they are so readily available in nearly every lake here in central florida. The carp here are typically grass carp and are released and controlled by fish and wildlife. They release only females in certain quantities each year.

Maybe I didn't word that correctly, but I did separate them between paragraphs. The lake I'm talking about doesn't have tilapia, that was a reference to the original post towards the red tailed tilapia.

What to you is a sensitive rare and desirable fish? The shiner population is next to ridiculous, you can get your day's worth of shiners in 15 minutes with 2 slices of bread and a size 16 hook. Because every time I'm out on this spring fed 442 acre lake (with the species listed) I get atleast 5-10 fish in 2-3 hours. Depending on bait of course determines LMB, SMB, and pickerel. Quality depends on the day but the smallest outing always produces a 4-6 lb LMB, 2-4 lb SMB or 18-24 inch chain pickerel. Winter crappie is pretty good too if you can find them. Being spring fed means it has a small current and the crappie move a lot. But I've pulled a boat limit (for florida) in 5 hours with the smallest being about 12 inches and 1 lb. Largest being over 2 lbs (IIRC 2 lbs 4 ounces).

Had a good time at the creek, caught just about everything, couldn't get the buffalo or redhorses to bite but had an awesome day :)

Also caught a softshell, but was too big for my tank. Caught a lot of small hybrid stripers as well.

Forgot to mention, I switch one of my creek rods to Power Pro 5lb test, with 1lb test diameter, I like it a lot better than mono. You can see the line, as I could with 6lb test mono of the same color which was green and I can cast a heck of a lot further, without spooking fish. And should I get a snag, I can easily break the line. Also go to watch the two Sauger I caught attack my lure and nightcrawler. The first hole we fished I used a nightcrawler, as I was reeling it for another cast, I watch him slam it, mouth wide open, about 5 yards from me. Then on down the creek, I made a cast and my buddy said he found a softshell turtle, so I quickly brought in the lure and then I saw something chase it and smash the lure on the surface but missed, I thought it was a bass so I tossed it back out, turns out it was a big Sauger and again I watch it come in full force, mouth wide open, wish I had it on video.

Caught a diner plate sized softshell fishing with shrimp for channels last summer. It was the weirdest experience, could feel there was a decent amount of weight on the line but little to no fight. Definitely surprised to find a turtle on the line especially a softshell.

When I fish for gar on the bottom, them things pick me clean almost every time, here and there I will bring one to the top. Last year I caught a big softshell fishing for gar, I put him in my 500, he tore that thing up.

Picked up a new rod and reel. I definetly like this one the best of all my rods and my favorite reel. Anyways the reel is an abu garcia ambassador orra sx paired with a 6'6" bucoo micro falcon graphite rod. And line that is way thicker than what I need. Its 65 lb braid but now I dont have to worry about any snags or line breaks. Heres some pictures of the setup. I love it. But I cant open the magnetic brake lol I cant find out how. Heres the pictures.

andrew its a centrifugal brake system, same as the revo S line. just undo the screw on the right side and the side plate will come right off. just play with it a little bit until you get to where you're comfortable. You'll definitely enjoy that setup a lot!
