Fishing season for 2017

Did a little smelt fishing this winter. These are sea-run smelt, caught through the ice.

Haha! Not sure. I think they can be cleaned and put in a fry pan. I don't eat fish so can't offer much advice on this

Yes, some anglers keep them alive and use for ice fishing. The bigger female smelt can be a foot long. Great pike bait.
I have kept some in the past for fish food Also, the roe can be used as food for reef tanks and small fishes.

Take the head off, gut them dip them in flour and/or breadcrumbs fry them in oil, great tasting popular in Chicago....

So today I caught a Big mouth sleeper. Which from what I have been told is fairly rare. Was told I'll probably never catch one again.
