fishkeeping - Who have you influenced?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
became friends with a guy who comes in to my work a lot, he started with a 20 gallon about 2 months ago, moved up to a 30 and now has the 30 and a 55 up and running and we hang out a good bit now

I actually don't have any close friends that keep fish. When I was a teenager almost all my friends have fish, but apparently they outgrew it... :irked:

However, I have started to influence one person's fishkeeping in a big way - my son, Clifford. He loves fish, in fact fish was one of the first words he learned. :D

The first photo is from last summer's 210G build. The second two are from a trip to the Oregon Coast Aquarium a month ago.

Srry but wen i think of fish keeping i come from a whole family of fishermen, fishkeepers, and fish addicts. But every1 of them (except 1 out of like 10) are married or have a girlfriend.... so i just srt of keep quiet

I think it's great to get the kids into it... both my kids love having the fish around.. My daughter is constantly refering in some way or another how we all keep fish here at he house.. her face lights up!! My son loves it as well, he's 2, and loves to tell the fish 'Hi' everyday... 'Hello fishy' and waves...

YAY i can tell my sob story! haha.

My favorite part about my love for fish is once i told my biological father about it and how i would love to become a marine biologist just a year ago when i was 16. He was shocked. He was amazed at the fact that me and him never even saw eachother until i was about 12-13 years old and still we had so much in common. I begged and begged for about a year for a 55 gallon tank for a single oscar. He came with the idea go big or go home, If that is even relevant... And I ended up with a 6 foot 150 gallon tank with 4 oscar fish! We began to share a hobby and become fascinated each and every day with the fish. I had never seen him so happy with pets like that before. He even went so far as to video taping them haha. He spent a ton of money on setting it up and spent a ton of time in decorating it with his own personal touch. Just a few months later we moved out and my dad went to mississippi for work. Then the bad news came in that he had passed from and OD on painkillers thanksgiving morning. So now this tank and these 3 oscar fish are what i have left of him, something we shared. So not only did i influence him with my inquiry and amazement of fish. He has inspired me to continue on with my passion and make him happy. And become that Marine Biologist that he also wanted to be when he was little.

sry for telling my life story lol

Don't be sorry, that's a great story.. influence at it's best!!!!

Let's see, at least 5 of my friends started fishkeeping after I got my first tank, a lot of the bio majors ask me for advise, my dad wants to get back into the hobby with killies, and several of my friends are looking to start tanks. My girlfriend love watching my nanofish. She's surprisingly patient with the licorice gouramis.

Got one friend into keeping fish, and have started to get my 1 year old niece into fish... even went out to get her a fake tank, with animated fish inside which she seems to love...

this past x-mas got my dad back into fishkeepeing after he tooka break of some 20 yrs. Got my husband into fishkeepeing, got my neice into fishkeeping, got my brother into fishkeeping w/ prolly abit of dads help... countless "stangers" over the years ath the LPS's i've worked at.

just about anyone who walks into my "space" and starts asking questions baout my tanks I get hooked. so many pre-conceived notions of goldfish in bowls and tanks with bubble chests and neon gravel...

Oooops, I forgot the bf!!! he has his own little 20g now.. :)

I try and hit everyone up too, but you can tell when their just not interested. .. or not as interested as I am.. But when I do notice a little spark of interest, I'm all over it!!
