I dont know how many people use the life guards now but not to many on here im pretty sure. Just look at the whats in you stand thread for one none or hardly any when i searched that. I used them on my old 240. And tried to get info from these guys on them and sand filters, and bead filters, no one used um so i got none. My next big tank. Im deffenitly using one of those ocean clear bead filters. With a set of life quard in line, mechanical, bio, and heater module with a uv. Cheap as hell for what you get for performance all is inline. Every one on here for the most part from what i c and i read tons of threads on here use either canisters, or wet drys, or some kind of diy sump. All you ever here on here is fx5 fx5 fx5. They are great cannisters but not enough people utilize set ups like you just set up.

They do tank up quite abit of room. thats the only reason i dont use them.

yes i agree...

i love the setup but see a flaw... my setup is so dependent on that pump. everything goes throgh that pump. if it failed it would halt my heating/filteration. could crash my tank.. but im going to buy another standby pump all plumbed and ready to screw on via unions...

ive seen some plumed fx5. those are cool..

oh yeah hey skillzizzo check out those ocean clear cainster/uv filters..... very nice all in one mechanical and uv. very pimp!

Ya i was just looking at these ones last night actually.

I was going to run one of these on my 125 i was going to set up. But i broke the damn thing a couple weeks ago moving it up stairs. With a little to tipsy freind of mine. And Having a plumbed back up pump is allways a good idea. But i think there is a better chance of everything else breaking before pumps go. I have had pumps run for years with out breaking. A cheap back up pump to have on hand would be a gen-x pumps. Great pumps for a cheap price tag. Only thing about them is they are not completly quite. But not real load either. Some people just try to make stuff silent. I dont bother its a fish tank and never going to be silent.

you said you want a new prodject and have another 125. I would use that for a sump and build a 360 or 480 diy ply tank with veiwing window. That will keep you occupied for awhile. And i wasnt running down using fx5s or ehiems or stuff like that i have and love them allso. And i have seen the hard plumbed fx5s on here a few times. Msmass polly has two like that on a single tank in the whats under your stand thread. And is a pretty impressive site to c. I just think thes life guard and ocean clear products are under used. Atleast from The set up i have checked out on this site. And i have been using this site sence o7 reading all the threads i can find on filtration for the most part. I spend most of my time on this site in the set up and filtration and diy threads

^ yeah i was thinking of building a plywood/glass setup to breed rays. i kind of planned on using the 125 as a sump but im not too sure if i want to. im leaning on trying to do a planted tank and use that 125 as my learning tank. we'll see....

I did some more work on the 125. i added a light under the stand so i can see whats going on down there and i also wired 2 doule gang AC power outlet...... i did kind of a diy to show how to do it.. ill post some pics and if you guys are intrested on how to do it ill post it on this thread...

heres the picture of the light installed under the stand...

got the lamp/bulb at home depot for 12.00 its a 22"

pretty much done with what i wanted to do except for the hard line from the washer water outlets. i plan on putting a valve on both cold/hot and get aout 80 degress out of the fresh water plumed into the tank. then im done...

what do you guys think?

Great looking filtration system. I bet it was a fun PITA to put to together. I like the gang box and the light too. Gives me some interesting ideas for my fish room which will be going in this coming summer once I get relocated to Phillips, WI.

On your spare 125, I was thining you might try juat a heavily planted tank and some 3 to 5 inch fish. A school of tetra's with possibly some Blue Rams would go great with marble hatchets for top feeders and some C121 Coridoras for bottom feeders. It would an awesome sight to see with all the diff. colors of the fish. But this is just an idea. I hope it gives you some ideas though. Good luck with the spare 125 and keep us posted on the progress with the next project.
