in a ten gallon tank? of course if it is a small tank one of em will obviously end up dead due to lack of space. but it will prolly be your jag

No no, I think you misunderstood...
The only reason I have the jag in a 10g is because she was harrassing my red tailed catfish and tiger shovelnose redtail hybrid. She ripped off the RTC's barbels... So I had to put her in a 10 for the time being... When the cats outgrow this tank the Jag can go back in the 45 (It's only 4.5" right now)

If I had something to house the Jag with, I would be willing to get another tank... I liked the 5 stars when I saw them at the LFS, which was why I was fishing for info...

The 5 Star General is very aggressive. Pound for pound they will destroy most cichlids. I have one in a 300 gallon with all the fish listed in my signature block, in which I have raise them all up together, and the 5 spot dominates them all. Just last week I had to remove him, so the others could live...

They are pretty fish, and a joy to watch when they are on the attack. I never seen anything like it. They are nasty...

When people say five star or five spot that refers to three similar and related but different cichlids from west african. These three cichlids are in the jewel family. First one which most people seem to have is Hemichromis Elongatus. Next up is Hemichromis Fasciatus and third is Hemichromis Frempongi. Hemichromis Frempongi is the rarest of the three. As to what is the most aggressive of the three, its a toss up i heard different stories as to which one is the most aggressive. I have breed Hemichromis Elongatus and currently have fry. I am also growing out Hemichromis Fasciatus and i have never kept Frempongi. Here is a good website http://www.sydneycichlid.com/jewel-cichlids.htm

Sorry I was referring to the Hemichromis Elongatus.

I was not bashing nobody , just trying to explain to people that say they have five spot or five star it can refer to any of the three

I have a 4 1/2" female who has been in tanks with both rift lake cichlids and now with juvenile CA/SA's and she's not too aggressive. She definitely holds her own with any fish in the tank though no matter what the size. However, I got her from a friend to save her from a male who at about 3" managed to destroy most of a tank full of adult mbuna.

I have a male elongtus and he is MEAN he is in a 55 gallon with a red devil, and a jaguar cichlid he literally destroyed the jag. the devil is always hiding, only come out when he's hungry. Elengtus are also a Carnivore only eats meat. you'l be very lucky if he eats pellets. It's not a beginner fish. One of my friends bought one, and it was in a 30 gallon the next day his slavini's and convict's were all shreded in pieces. Minimum tank size only for one fish 30 gallon my elongtus is 8 inches he's a big and a mean sonava B.... Warning you it could easily kill doviis.
