Florida Peacock Bass Fishing Circa 2006

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
caught this little guy a few weeks back. Sorry the picture sucks it was taken on a garbage camera phone. by the way i'd have to say that a rattlin rapala is the # 1 lure for peacock. I catch almost all my pbass on it.

All these PBs were caught in a Private lake in the West Kendall section of Miami-Dade County. It's probably at least an hour drive from Davie in light traffic.

hey juan...got a bunch of pics of catches but a bit too lazy to post right now...this past trip down was very good due to the spawn...was averaging some 40 per day, with most from canals south and east of you....east cutler is a good source for the spangled guys and large amounts were taken south of homestead and florida city. If you are looking to meet up with some locals that are hardcore pea fishermen check out the pbass threads here and contact some people...alot of guys local to you:(skim through the salty threads as there are tons of pics of peas in the pbass reports almost daily)

If you need some maps to some places let me know...alot are only 15 min drive from you;) alot of the places we used to fish are so overfished now that we go further south to a few spots that some locals had told me about...that is where we did most of our fishing this past trip....but falls mall and coral reef regional park(aka midas park) still produced well up your way. I dont do much fishing for peas from ponds and lakes down there due to the look of the lake bass, but have fished your lake from up by the baseball field and the 2 parks...also a few above the gunclub on tamiami and north of the airport.....nowadays I look for these guys:D

I shipped a couple of 4-5 inch PB juvies last month to NY for over $ 50 via Fedex. Both DOA I'm told. That's the last time I'm ever shipping these fishys.:(

Before that I shipped several batches of 8 esch farther North and West of NY with no problems when It was colder!

I've decided the effort and time to do it is not worth my time. I'm just a retired fellow trying to enjoy my remaining years and not have to run around making Fedex richer.;)

They ship very badly in temps under 60 degrees. 60 to 75 being ideal. I have seen lots of them in area lakes and spoke to someone who has caught and shipped them .
I havent fished for any . Do you eat them? I intend to catch a few small ones to keep as pets.

Thanks

Today I thought I'll pace myself and take a rest from fishing. I've reached two thirds of the way of my target for the year and Summer has barely started. Thought I'll rest from fishing but not from living. So I took a 4 mile hike around the Lake and caught some fishies on camera and pics of other residents in the lake. Here's some of the pics...

Great pics. I have seen lots neat fish mostly peacock bass but lots african cichlids and even tetras, lots turtles,"water" iguanas, etc the difference is your lake is great mine is a WALL of 6 feet cattails, weeds all around the lake.
its a pain to access it keep everyone away and wildlife thrives but again big pain.
Its one of the Doral lakes .
