Hello once again!

Ok so here the thing, i just bought one of these at the ontario exotic reptile exp, (it was sick) anyhow i got him for 45$ i was wondering if i got ripped off, i got the price down from 60$, he is about 3-5 inches long? (i am metric so i will have to actually measure him) right now he is in my 75 gallon with all my fish, if i see that he is liking to eat some i think i will invest in a new tank, anyhow what do i need for this guy, i got him on a whim, i have never seen these before today, and as far as i know he is a male, i do have some floating wood for if he needs to get out of the water but i am not 100% on if it will work, the guy i bought him from seemed to think it would be fine. But these soft shells are my favorite turtle now their little pig noses are really funny and amazing. Plus the extent of their neck, hilarious!!!

Ya, pretty sure these things outgrow a 75 gallon. Probably be best to get a 180 or a pond going for when its an adult.

But post some pictures, I love those guys!

What species of softshell did you pick up? Just a heads up, your fish will probably become lunch for your softshell. And I also recommend a larger tank in the future. Look forward to some pics! :)

There are several things to make clearer:

First, you mentioned the turtle was sick. What are the symthoms, how are you dealing with it being sick?.

Second: you say you keep it with fish, What kind of fish and what are the fish sizes and who many fish do you have?.

Third: Lets think you got the Apalone fexros:

.

You say yours is a female, then your turtle could grow up to 17", the females are bigger than the males.

This turtle is mainly acuatic, so you can keep it in a fish tank but be sure the turtle have something to partially climb on get out of the water every once in a while.

And take into account that this turtles become more ferocious as they grow up, it is going to fest on your fish sooner or later for sure because fish is their diet main course.

I kept one of this and he was a hell of a hunter.

After the snappers soft shells are my favorites aswell.

Cheers.

If its a florida softy Apalone ferox even if male it will grow to about 15 inches and all thouse fish are toast;) Also if he´s sick as you think you should bring him to a exotic vet asap, softshell turtles particulary floridas are prone to things like respiratory infections and skin problems and if they arent stoped rapidly some serious stuff can soon follow. Also a really big aquarium will be needed short time as this guys are fast growers.
