Now that you mencion food I must absolutley worn you about a very important thing that is very especific of softys. Dont ever ofer a big chunk of meat or big woule fish to your turtle like you could for like a slider or a snapper. In my experience softshell turtles are very prone to over eat if given the chance and if something like a big woule fish( wich for them equals something like a sardine) is ofered they can literaly eat themselfes to death. Ive losed turtles because of this. ONLY offer small items that can be swallowed in one bite and dont over feed. Turtle pellets, earthworms, small shrimp, koi, chiclid and catfish pellets, snails ,crickets, locusts and the ocasinal small chunk of chinken, fish fillet and mealworms, will keep your turtle in top health. Feeders are poor food choices and dont feed goldfish. As for your other fish I think you really should put them apart;)

This is really importand and i do agree with you. Several spicies are really easy to overfed compromising the health or even the life of the specimen.

I keep my Alligator snapping with 3 redeared but when feedeing the snapper I take away from the tank the redeared because they eat everything they see. They could easy eat all day long if they could.

The snapper is pretty measured with food, she eats a lot but then rests for the rest of the day and then eats the next day.

I feed my turtles minnows, caryfish, beffheart, fillet of squid and fish.

I reccomend you those foods.

Cheers.

Men you need to put your sliders and aligator snapper apart like now:eek: :irked:Aligator snappers are notorious for killing or mutilating other turtles. On the oposite if the sliders are bigger then the snapper, they can stress the snapper by there constant activitys, but really the danger is that snappers simply consider other turtles as prey....

Ya, I don't know why he is talking when he has RES and a Alligator snapper in the same tank..... That's just messed.

My local "zoo" has Florida softies, they must be 15"+ each. Defenatly will need a bigger tank.

Chill out people, my Alligator snapper is a macrcoclemys an spicies less agressive than the common snapper wich is really vicious.

Moreover all the turtles I have are about 3" and they live in a big tank, so they will do for a while.

Cheers.

And that´s exacly the one Im talking about;) it doesant mater if its a comon or a Macroclemmys the kind of damage they can do its the same and alis have more powerfull jaws. They treat other turtles like prey. It can easily crush one of your slider´s head or amputate fingers, menber, tail, etc. At 3 inches long they are well passed the newborn hachling state in wich some breeders keep them togeter. And I have yet to see any evidence that they are Less agressive then comons. From what Ive observed so far comons are simply more active then aligators and take a more proactive atitude when you take them out of the water. But agression is the same. Your sliders dont deserve to lose a limb or even their lifes just because their "owner" didnt want to put them apart:irked:
