I am attempting to plan a saltwater fishing trip to florida next year to target large fish such as redfish, tarpon, permit, bonefish, or snook. Need an idea of what tackle and some good shore fishing spots to fish and possibly a place to rent a kayak to go fish the flats.

no takers at all

not to be a smart *** but to where the fish are. No areas picked out yet just a region of florida where we have a good bet of hooking into a fair size tarpon or one of the other fish mentioned. Like is there a time of year when the tarpon come shallow, and what rods and tecniques are used?

bump. come on guys

Theres decent redfish up here in N Fl but I think the monsters are farther south. Mosquito Lagoon or some such. I like to use quartered blue crab for Reds. Dont have any experience with the others but as far I know Tarpon will eat just about anything.

All I will say is.... rent a yak... dont bother trying to fish off the shore (you dont tend to catch much, a lot of puffers, usually overcrowded annoyingness). Winter is a better time to come. I would look into the merrit island area or try west palm out. I can tell you it will be hard for you to find good spots as many won't give their spots away, but you can ask around some people are nice about it. I would say take a yak out at the refuge and try the flats out there. Mosquito lagoon is a popular place for flats fishing, again I suggest a yak. As for what to do... I would go live with whatever the current food source is at the time. If you go out there though you need to be aware or your surroundings esp if you wade... there are gators, salt crocs and plenty of stingrays.
