Flowerhorn black patches problem and type

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
And could you please explain about mine having two flowerline instead of one , I haven't heard about it before.
The darker area’s above the main flower line are the natural stress bars that a lot of cichlid show when something upsets them.

The lines you see (from top to bottom of fish) are stress bars, the dots on top seems like double (2nd) flowerhorn line that few fish have.

I think fish might be stressed for multiple reasons. I will start with adding background. Then follow what mangus said. Substrate and something to hide behind and under is good.

Flowerhorns like other cichlids enjoy sand/gravel but that increase maintenance for owner. For a tiny tank that can mean lots of issues if not done right. You tank looks to be sufficient size.

Agreed with both above, add bkg, substrate, and even just a big rock for him to hide behind if you don’t want to add any more decor.

my male sysn (9inches) hide behind a group of large rocks I have in the tank. I had plants to help add more shelter for him but he ripped them all out of his “nest”

I had initially painted a black background but It was lately removed as he was attacking his own reflection.
Will add a background soon...
