Flowerhorn food.

Definitely don't use them. Just consider it as if you got scammed and trash the food. Hikari Cichlid Bio-gold is great though. You don't have to really feed a huge variety of pellets. One good quality staple will do just fine although if you wanted to add more NLS and Northfin are good to add onto the Hikari. Pellets should be the bulk of their diet. Any food other than pellets should be considered a treat and not to be fed more than 1-2 times a week.
I agree, i had a flowerhorn a year ago and i fed it with these "specially formulated flowerhorn foods" claiming that it will enhance my flowerhorn colors and kok like magic. But fh colors and kok depends with genetics hands down. Ime, also i find that these food also make your fh grow faster and make your fh belly get huge. May be because of high amount of protein which is an extra calories and may result with fat deposit to your fh. Which may cause untimely death. The only thing that I may advise is dont over feed. This is the number reason that most beginner fh keeper do i am also a guilty of this. So dont overfeed. As RD "said let your eyes be your guide" in feeding your fish.

I picked this guy up on January 9th. First pic is shortly after introduced to his new home. Second and third pics were taken January 17th.
I’ve been feeding Hikari Blood Red Parrot+ Medium pellets. I picked up an 11.7oz bag as that was the only Hikari food the store had on hand.

After reading this thread I want to order some NLS as that seems to be the best for overall health.

Which NLS should I order? What size pellets? Floating vs sinking?
He’s a little under 3” and the medium Hikari pellets seem a little big for him. Should I quit feeding the Hikari when I get the NLS?

Also, any thoughts on his color getting darker? After looking at other pics I think it’s a Red Dragon.

Thanks to everyone sharing pics and their knowledge on flowerhorns. As mentioned, there’s a lot of misinformation out there. I never thought I’d be so interested in a hybrid fish, but i’m really excited on this new fish keeping chapter.

keep feeding the Hikari. Just add NLS into the rotation. NLS would be a better staple so I would feed that more often then the Hikari.

You are correct. He is a red dragon. He is darker because of the black backround and substrate. Blue background and a lighter sand or gravel would be better.

Also can't find hikari bio gold cichlid locally ether , I'm in Texas , can I feed my flower horn regular hikari gold cichlid or omega one vicious pellet ?
