Flowerhorn growout

Is this normal? I’ve always seen it on daisy but never on other FH, even in stores big flowerhorn I see don’t have this. What is it? Everytime I see it it makes me think that his kok is growing back far on him and is almost conjoined to the dorsal fin… not sure if that makes sense or not lol every other FH I’ve ever seen has this part smooth on its body but on daisy it kind of bumps up B94B331A-E27D-4EA6-87F2-C40C0AEC1381.jpeg

I think it's bone apart of the spine. I see it on many cichlids, including flowerhorn. Nothing wrong. I find it prominent on some texas cichlids. It is not part of the nuchal hump. Here is an unfaded red texas that shows it well enough so you get the idea.

Weird, I see in this photo that it’s kind of like a bump but on daisy it’s like the skin got pushed forward and was starting to fold over itself if you know what I mean.

Is it right on top or shifted onto one side?

Yeah it will look different on different species. I believe I could see it on my flowerhorn when he was younger but his hump quickly grew over it.

What kind of kok does daisy have? Semi kok? Hard is obviously ruled out but I’m not sure about water or semi because his kok protrudes all around like a water kok but it doesn’t look like it’ll end up growing past his face

Looks semi but it should pop out a lot more as he grows. You should do more and/or bigger waterchanges. Get that water quality up.

Won’t lie, I have been slacking on water changes for this week because I haven’t been feeling the best but plan on making myself do one tomorrow before I go to the petstore to get snails. Also, would rabbit snails be okay for my flowerhorn tank? I’m a big fan of rabbit snails. Back to daisy, I’ve heard that the easiest way to tell at a young age if a flowerhorn has a hard, semi or water kok is to see if light shine throughs it or not, light does shine through daisys kok which I’ve read means Water kok but the shape of it makes me think it’s semi.
