Flowerhorn growout

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I used to do the ol bucket technique, now I use a semi inexpensive water pump and a long tube, I use a bucket still for gravel cleaning but the bulk of my water change is done with a water pump. It’s relatively inexpensive, saves tons of time, and makes life easier.

For long term health and development but more for long term health. You don’t want to feed protein really higher than 40%. You could start feeding algae wafers or NLS algaemax 3-4 times a week.

Okiko is garbage. Won’t help it’s kok grow. Just shower lifespan. Don’t be a victim to false advertising. Just clean water, genetics, and a quality pellet does the trick.
Never been a fan of anything that says it’s meant for flowerhorn because it’s usually packed with protein which isn’t too good for them but I’ve heard from others that the problem isn’t the high protein, it’s the dirty water that comes from feeding high protein (I know this is completely false) also with my job I haven’t been able to do much for water changes. I did one today for the first time in a week and my filter is also now filled with waste and gunk and slime looking stuff so tomorrow I have the day off and I get paid tomorrow ( first payday is sent by US post office so it’ll take a while) but I’ll be buying a 50ft python for sure as soon as I get the money. 12$/hr and I worked I think 37 hours this week also tomorrow will be doing a filter clean.
You could also maybe feed Hikari Blood Parrot + to bring the red out of him.
i can’t find any hikari BP anywhere except for Amazon and the cheapest one on there is like 30 dollars

Don’t slack on maintenance. Learn to manage your time.

2 things that bring out the red in fish the ingredients astaxanthin and krill. Petco/PetSmart has Omega One pellets that carry these ingredients. Petco has NLS too. No need for Hikari BP+.

Better up those water changes or start doing 5-10 gallons a day, with a big one (over 50%) on your days off. That's how much you will need at a minimum once your FH reaches full adult size. Slack off before then, and you'll be spending more money on medication.

My job is really active and my body isn’t used to that much anymore but I’m starting to get used to it so give it t another day and I’ll be back to daily water changes

5-10 gallon water changes daily with a 50% weekly seems…excessive. It’s my opinion, and what I experience with my flowerhorn so take it with a grain of salt. I do weekly water changes at between 30%-50% and have no water issues, I also test my water weekly. Again I know you may be experiencing different circumstances but daily water changes seems crazy to me. Just my two cents.

Just gonna be doing daily water changes for a couple days to catch up from where I’ve been behind.
