50g is considered the minimum for fh in many other countries, there are also those who breed fh in a 55g. Debatable, but personally I think keeping it in a 55g is fine. I've seen many in a 55g doing fantastic
ageee with you. That’s exactly my mindset when I was thinking of home for life for the FH

Don’t agree with either of these. I held a very young flowerhorn in a 50 for a few months and I never thought it was big enough for him. ESPECIALLY knowing how big they do get. He didn’t even have a developed kok. Now I feel as a fish keeper if you don’t see anything wrong with having a certain fish in a certain sized tank that is either to small or dirty. Then you just don’t care enough about the fish’s good. Because realistically if you DID care you would understand “wow my fish is suffering due to these bad circumstances” the thing about breeding is stupid if you ask me because those people are doing it for money. Not the fish’s sake and not for the health of them. Just that bread.

Gonna have to agree with Kolton13 Kolton13 here. A smaller breed of flowerhorn that doesn’t get over 8-10 inches in a 55, fine. But one that has already been identified to get bigger than the tank is wide is asking for problems. You can’t say that you want to keep the fish for its whole lifespan and then go ahead and do something that would dramatically shorten it. Just doesn’t work that way.

Eventually I plan on having him in his own 75+ but it’ll be a while or at least until I get my own job and have my own place to put the tank but until then a 55 is going to have to be the biggest I can get him unless I get a 75 for my birthday or Christmas. I’m just kind of letting everything play out right now so I don’t need to worry about anything for a while

You’re 16. A job is a good goal. But a house is a long stretch. You still have the red devil. You can’t house those 2 in together for another what like 2 years? Minimum for your own house. And you’ve said u don’t have a ton of space in your room. Considering this tank is on a table. So I don’t really know what a good idea would be.

Finding a place to rehome the red devil currently. I’m going to be making a cinder block stand and see if my uncle will help me paint a bunch of fish like rtc, arowana, payara, PBass and so on. He a wizard when it comes to art.

I just don’t understand why you put yourself in these situations. I mean multiple people told u do NOT buy anymore fish. Then on a thread you said “I know people won’t be happy about this” or something along those lines. Like you KNEW I just don’t understand why. Call back the place I set u up with before.

Honestly I fell in love with this flowerhorn the second I saw it I bonded with it and knew it wasn’t something that would need 1000+ Gallons and knew I’d soon be getting a larger tank so I thought why not. Also the place is an hour and a half away and I’d be able to maybe get 5$ In store credit if I’m lucky. Might drop off at a petco or something. Or I know someone with a bigger tank.

Some people believe in love at first sight. I can't say I do; it's infatuation or lust or something, but the bond that is true love does not develop instantly between two people.

This is a fish. There is no bond. There won't be a bond. At most it might learn to recognize you as a source of food. That's it.

When your blue whale cat died you posted something about being "devastated" or something similar. Within minutes you were posting about getting your mom to drive you to the fish store to find something to replace it.

You jump from one infatuation to the next. The fish dies. You get another one. Immediately drop it into the same cloudy tank, with the old poop and detritus and uneaten food still in the gravel.

This is not the way to keep living creatures.

So what I am understanding is this:

You get a fish, put it in a crappy tank, and then it dies. You had an ’attachment’ to it for the few hours it was alive. Then, you go to the store and get another fish. And then you repeat it.

Nobody wants you to stop fish keeping, we just want you to not abuse fish. Just listen to users. You do not consult people with your decisions. You talk about how you think this fish is awesome, everyone congratulates you on the find, and then everything turns upside down. You here most people say “Give it away”, and then you hear a random person that only read the title and they say “Congrads, great find, good luck”, and you listen to them. You do not acknowledge users like jjohnwm jjohnwm who has been keeping fish since forever ago, and has a ton of experience.

When I joined, I was like you. Eager, and an annoying inconvenience. Trust me, if you are ever going to stay on mfk and somehow manage to not get banned, respect would what you would want. If you ask almost every single mfk’er, you do not deserve the slightest bit of respect. To get respect, LISTEN TO PEOPLE. Stop and take a break. Look at your tank for example. It looks horrid. It is on a tightrope, and the tightrope is sawing every second the fish is in their. When it breaks, the fish dies. Then it sets itself up again and again. Everybody - experienced and inexperienced - is telling you to give your fish away. You DO NOT have the recourses. You have said “I’m working on it” over and over again. How has that worked out for you, eh? Let’s be real here, everyone knows you are “working on it”, but you aren’t going fast enough. Every fish you’ve had either died under your keeping, or you sold because your lack of research.

Lets see what you have to say about this message
