Yeah hikari is decent. New Life Spectrum is a better food. Omega one is also a decent food like hikari. You should get some medium pellets for the hikari. Underrated advice for flowerhorn is to care for them like any other american cichlid.

Agree, to me NLS and northfin are super foods, people can get away with medium quality like hikari and omega one as long as they keep water quality decent and give ample space.

It's funny how we treat flowerhorns and how many other hobbyist do. People who don't understand basics of ingredients or nutrition and randomly call foods high quality and low quality, suitable/unsuitable for flowerhorns like they have magic inside them.

Starving a fish is not a treatment. Not one case of constipation has been diagnosed in freshwater fish. It is physiologically impossible. These cases that look similar are obstructions (different pathophysiology). Not feeding a fish will lead to slower recovery when sick, if it recovers at all. It’s just like a human, when you are sick or after surgery you may not want to eat but when you do you get nutrients and quicker healing times. Please take this all into account. If anyone has any questions about this write them in the comments below. Disagreements with information to back it up are welcome aswell.

Flowerhorns are actually very similar to other fish. Physiologically they are all the same with mild differences in regards to body size but internally they function the same. And the diseases do not differ between any other freshwater fish species.

He got comments like "Do you keep flowerhorns?", Stare meme, "most of the information is great for Cichlid care. Flowerhorns are not like other fish. I’ve kept fish for over 30 years and all the rules are thrown out when it gets to flowerhorns.", then just irrelevant replies.

What Northfin formula are you using? I appreciate all the extra info from everyone as well!

I am using northfin krill pro but I also feed nls ultrared and algaemax. No need to over complicate like me. Feeding northfin cichlid pellets with NLS algaemax would be equivalent.

It looks like mine and I was told he's a thai Silk and you can tell he's male from the small kok. Lfs just told me flowerhorn and he's "not aggressive" . Yeah, right.

Hump is really not an indicator of gender, females do get hump too. Your fish is a good looking one.

Lol on lfs calling it thai silk and not aggressive.

Our fish look basically the same, not that I know what a thai silk should look like. Mine is pretty aggressive though. Is it okay to keep some decor with them? Like some smooth rock or driftwood or even a terracotta pot?

Yeah you can keep decor in there. They like rocks and drift wood and sand, their just not a fan of sharp objects or plants.
