well, how big is there kok and how nice is the color play a important role in pricing flowerhorn..if the fish is a new breed it will cost you alot depending how well is the quality it will have a price tag of 1500 even more..new flowerhorn with unique patters and if the fish can fertilise can cost alot of money..the most expensive flowerhorn was sold for more than half a million...so yes is one of the most expensive fish in the hobby...

no flower horn is worth half a million i dont think any flower horn should be worth over 6000-7000$ and that for the best of the best
breeders that win flowerhorn show are the most $$$$

And flowerhorn do have a scientific name...Cichlasoma Ssp. (Cichlid Species)
NO, they most certainly do not have a scientific name. They are not a described species....nor could they ever be, under the current rules of nomenclature. For it ever to become a species, a hybrid has to occur in nature......and not just the odd one here or there, but an actual seperate population. Once you bring different species into captivity and cross them.....they are considered a domesticated hybrid and have no real scientific name. A flowerhorn is a mix of Amphilophus and Veija/Paratheraps, as well as possibly many other CA cichlid species.

If you want to call a flowerhorn a "Cichlasoma species" (species abreviated sp. not Ssp.) then the term is being used as a common name, not a scientific name. Cichlasoma species are port acara-type fish from South America and it has been an invalid term for CA Heroine for almost 30 years now.

You think they're ugly and look sad, so why do you even keep one...?

Not everybody keeps fish just to look pretty. If that were my only reason to keep fish.....I wouldn't bother; I'd just hang a pretty picture on the wall. Many reasons to keep fish. Most people have interest in the animals themselves; find particular fish interesting and fascinating.

Personally, I think most flowerhorns are very pretty. There colorfull fish. Don't like the super humungus nauchal humps.......but everybody has different tastes. Since we all like different things, it's hard for many of us to understand why a flowerhorn can be worth so much. But the market and the demand are there.....ultimately, in dollares and cents, a fish is worth what people are willing to pay for it.

the flower get his price from two things:
rarity- If the fish is have a unique color, texture, physique, etc... so it will be more expensive.
quality- for example: SRD. the quality is measured by many things like:
big head
long Fins
whole flowers chain
proportion between the tail and the fins.
Strong colors
strong red color over the chest.
Proportion of the jaws.
