Flowerhorn really dying helP!!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm sorry for your loss. From the pictures it looked like a type of necrotizing bacteria, in people it's known as "necrotizing fasciitis". I've seen a lot of cases in various mammals where the bacteria literally eats away the flesh. It is just absolutely bizarre.

Wow I have never seen anything like that. I would bleach the tank for like...a year. My skin is crawling just looking at it.

I'm really sorry for your loss. It doesn't seem like there was anything you could have done at that point. As Lupin said, tetracycline antibiotics would be a harsh, but probably the best bet; but I have never heard of anything like this so medictions may not have helped either.

If caught earlier, it may likely survive the ordeal but once this progresses to the point the fish no longer has a mouth, it should have been euthanized immediately. This started initially as a "duck lip" or mouth rot. The previous meds used were mebendazole (for internal issue), methylene blue and salt, none of which would have eliminated a severe case of bacterial infection. It would have to be either kanamycin or tetracycline.

I still cant get over the way that thing looks. You should have taken more pics as it progressed lol. It kinda reminds me of the alien from the movie predator. Sorry about the loss tho :(

Sorry for your loss, but that fish shouldn't have had to look like that. I have no Idea what everyone is saying, but I took a glimpse at the photo and felt sick. Sorry for your loss, but atleast the fish isn't in pain anymore.

When Flowerhorms have facial deformities, it can be Hexamita. I am currently treating a Blue Flowerhorn which I almost gave up on. For one year, he swam on his his head, but did eat. I assumed it was swim bladder. recently he has taken a much worse trun and this week had a lesion that looked like cottage cheese on his head. I retreatied him with with metranidazole at 40 mg/gallon e days ago. The lesion is now gone. Today I tried to give him a pea stuffied with metranidazole, and he jumped all over my counter and spit it out. I caught him again, left him in the net and stuffed the pea dowbn his throat with a Q-tip. He hasn't eaten in about 10 days, but the external anomalies are gone and he is swimming correctly. I hope tjhis helps.
