UV sterilizer huh? i'll do some research on it and velvet disease as well. thanks for the tip!

Unless you see the spots by now or almost immediately, it's not velvet. They are like ich, visible and spread just as quickly if not faster than ich.

I honestly hate FHs that do this, and mostly happens to those that are from overseas. Damn parasites:irked:

UV sterilizer is a preventative tool, not a cure for already sick fish. Gatta treat first before getting the UV.

i'll take a closer look at him tonight but i seriously haven't noticed anything.

he's continually eating like a champ, active and gaining weight/thickness. its probably nothing but it just seems unnatural and irritating for the fish.

jp uv light is not only preventative tool but it is also used to kill parasites on exsisting tanks. once the water pass through the light it will kill the parasites. I use mine when ever I see my fish stating to dart around their tanks and within 24 hrs. the darting stops. if you dont belive me read about it more and you will see. I used uv light with metro at the same time in treating hex and ducklip before and the healing process is much faster. Ive cured severe ducklip in 5 days with metro and uv light. it took me weeks and weeks before in curing ducklip and hex.

i've been reading up on uv sterilizers and it seems like its very beneficial, for both fighting off parasites and controlling algea. most impressively i found, it improves the fishes immune system.

i'm definatly thinking of getting one, i just have to figure exactly how to fit it in my built in wet/dry. (will be posting in set/up forum)

maybe it is ick bcuz my AFC did the same thing

no, its definately not ich... and it can't be something internal since he's eating normally, stool looks normal, etc etc.

so my only guess is its a light external parasitic case... something i'm hoping a uv sterilizer should ease down or take care of totally.

I am aware of everything you've said, since I've been running UV for my important tanks ever since I started fish keeping.

My statement saying "preventative" is because if the the parasites are already ON the fish, they will never get sucked through your pump or canister filter that your UV is installed and hence they don't die. It sure does eliminate/reduce the number of free swimming parasites, but does NOT kill off the parasites already on the fish.

Also when you are medicating the tank, you are supposed to turn off the UV sterilizer just like taking out the carbon, as it breaks down the medication. Read your/all of the UV sterilizer manuals, they will tell you to turn them off when medicating. Maybe your UV sterilizer bulb wattage is low vs the tank size, and not absorbing enough metronidazole for your FH to heal from hex:confused: Well either way glad to hear you saved your fish:headbang2
