Flowerhorn Tail Floating Up?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well I don't know what else for you to try aside from maybe some crushed peas... Is he pooping normal? I had a fish do this only it swelled up also and turned out to be impacted intestines... Fed that sucker some peas and softened him right up, pooped for hours... You tried epsom salt?

post a picture??? or a video?

for how long has it been kept starving
is the color normal and the head size the same or has the color darkened and the head shrunk

you don't need to put him down this early, one of 4" jewel chiclid has a swim bladder disorder too, but its the reverse and he cannot swim to the top unless he really struggles to move up for food
but he has been like this for nearly 2 and half months
all day he just sits in one place and moves around only during feeding, got sinking pellets to help him
his colors are still great and there is no evidence of stress

may be this helps

I starved him for about a week and a half, but I started feeding lightly after that. The salt I'm using is epsom salt. My camera doesn't do video, but I'll try to get one up. As far as crapping, I haven't noticed it so I'll start feeding him some peas. Thanks guys and gals.

in my experience when fish get like this they do not recover. Get him in a small hospital tank and only fill half way. This will help your fish stay upright. If he's not better, metro or any other strong broad spectrum antibiotic may not be a bad idea. I would use rock salt or aquarium salt. Epsom salt is different. Calcium or potasium chloride I believe. Epsom works as laxative but is not good to use as routine salt IMO. I would get him in the smaller tank, half full so he can stay upright, give antibiotics, and do daily water changes and pray for the best. Hope he pulls through for you bud.
