I've decieded to do it. My 8 year old daughter gave me the go ahead, i had to ask permission first since she belongs to her.

as for rain, there is very little that gets into the pond because it is under an overhang in the rear of my house. As for the goldfish, they will not be in the pond while she is out there.

I truely do understand that i'm not going to be able to see her for a while and that for a short time she may be stressed but i still feel the rewrds will be better than the possible consequences. Worst case senerio she would eat too many bugs and get fat and lathargic and not have great colors. Then at least next year i would know not to make the same mistake.

I'll update everyone in a month or so. happy fish keeping.

Good Luck, keep us posted!!

its a great idea for a grow out fer a month, it just depends on the size of the pood if too big the fh may not understand when you come to feed pellets, there were some low grade flowerhorns in a koi pond at a local mall and seemed fine ( in toronto, ontario) they seemed fine and we get jumps in temperture here, there hearty fish but I would not put my favourite masterpiece in a pond , more lowgrade stuff, too many blue herons here, fish may be eatten..

well an early update:

She's been in the pond for about 4 hours now and shes brighter than she was inside and she has already eaten 12 hicari gold med size pellets. so good result so far.

I live in Stafford, VA and have a friend that has about 15 FH fry in a 100g stock tub outside filtered by a canister filter w/ a built-in UV light. They've been out there for over a month now and are doing fine.

Sounds like she's having fun! Just watch out for an ammonia spike with all that food she's eating. It might not hurt to test the water in a couple days.

P.S. If I were a Flowerhorn in a 200+ gallon pool, I think I'd be pretty happy too. :)
