Lol. Have you ever tried using pvc pipes for your female to hide in? I get mine from the plumbi g section at Lowes/Home Depot. When my pair 1 male acts up, I usually know it because she will go into her pvc tube and he can't get her In there and that's when I put the egg crate back in. After a week or too they are dying to get back to each other and the cycle begins again.

She's got a hiding spot but she never gets pinned in there by the male. There was actually only one time when I needed the divider with these guys. They were still feeling each other out and the male would give chase.
It played out just like you said, the female clearly wanted at the male so I cut a hole for her. She went through and never went back. My fh now lives there with his mate.
