My first thought. What a PITA.
Bet it looks awesome and is fun as h to put together tho.

Ok I'm ditching the FBF. My sump will have a 4300 GPH pond pump with 2, 1-1/4" outputs. Was wondering if there are any UV filters that can handle that? And yeah I need two of them. rated at about 2/3 the total capacity(since Its split)

I don't know where to find one. Will a house hold uv water sterilizer work, how about those industrial ones?

Also wondering how do I post a image so I can throw up a image of the sump solid model I have going right now.

Should I start a new thread? I was also wondering about what kind of media to use in my sump?

Bioballs for the wet/dry portion, ceramic rings in the first sumberged stage, ok I have two more stages what else? I'm really new to this.

Ok so I'm getting this pump:

http://www.acehardware.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3993330&cp=2568443.2568452.2631240.1260795

I need 2 UV filters for it and I would like to get some heavy duty ones that I can carry over to a larger pumps or filter systems in the next 2-3 years. So they need to be able to handle atleast 3000 GPH.

I was looking at these:

http://fish-supplies.fosterandsmithaquatics.com/search?af=type%3Aproduct&view=grid&w=uv&visitorID=&cartcount=0&wishcount=0&subtotal=0.00

Would any of you guyz say what brand you have had better experience with?

The turbo twister, Cal pump and GreenFree look better for my purpose

Ok since this thread has wandered(my fault) I was wondering if I should start a new broader thread covering the whole filters design and construction.

I can't believe the cost of this. the PVC for piping 11 tanks is about 300, the pump and uv and sump construction materials and filter media all add up to almost 1,000 dollars.

Are used UV sterilizers bad to buy(meaning are the a waste of money) I saw a few on craigs list and ebay.

Sorry, I know the idea has been shelved but for a FBF use K1 filter media, designed for the job.

Thanks, will do when I set one up. Probably will happen some where down the line just won't be part of this build. probably for something smaller, and more manageable. The flow rate of this filter would be devistating, 4,000 GPH would require quite a huge FBF.
