Fluorite Cleaning Tips?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
OH and i also think 3inch of this stuff looks like sh**. You hydro sponges did the same thing... Do i have to add the bucket or bowl inside the tank to catch the spill from the sponges?

I shouldn't have gotten this finner stuff... almost wanna trash it all out and spent another 80 on the bigger stuff. I just tossed around the gravel today and it hid most of the stuff.. im going to refill it really slow

I dont even know where i want all my plants and rocks.... maybe ill just do plants. I dont have all the ones i want so ill have to see how hard it be to install them after its full. Try and get the bigger plants in/rocks/wood.

What i did was put it all in a big bucket and run a hose down to the bottom. I turned on the water low so it would fill up and pill over and let it run like that for 30 minutes.

Still was a bit cloudy when i put it in the tank, but it settled down in no time.

Ill run a line inside this weekend and try one more time. I dont like this small fine stuff anymore.

Woo 3 months later and its finally clear. I hate this stuff. I used a Drip system to add water into the tank over 2days... It was the only way not to raise the dust. But i still have a layer on the gravel that which kinda kills the color thanks everyone for your help.

I tired adding fluorite dark to my tank and the water looked like chocolate milk. I left the python and tried continuously changing the water and that didn't work. I finally went to Home Depot and picked up a paint strainer. It looks like a big mesh shower cap. I threw the fluorite in that and hit it with the hose for a couple of minutes, and all was well. It still clouds slightly whenever I'm planting, but it settles quickly.

You might try to gently "swish" a gravel vac over the top and see if you can suck up the little clouds as they appear.

I just redid my 60 gallon this weekend and stirred the heck out of the flourite underneath from pulling up some swords and I had to do 2 70% water changes and there was still a layer of muck covering stuff so I got a turkey baster and blew it all off every hour so that the filter got it all. Im going to gravel vac tomorrow to get all the stuff settled on the substrate.

I have a 1000 gph pump pond pump that I drop into my 180W.
I put a 5 micron whole house fliter on the intake side and run it till it clogs. The filters cost about $3 a piece at walmart. When the filter clogs, the pump starts blowing bubbles I take a walmart shopping bag and put it over the whole house filter and the suction from the pump sucks it fast to the whole house filter then I pull it out of the tank. Cheap and effective, I sold my diatom filter it was too much of a pain.
