Near me there are 2 fluval 306's for sale for $150 if they are still available used. I am debating picking them up to run on my 125, would that be adequate for my 125 gallon? Otherwise at a local pet store then have the FX6 on sale until july for $290. Would I be better off saving my money towards that? I also saw that the Aquatop CF500UV looks like a pretty solid option for around $120 a pop.

I currently have 2 Rena XP3's and a few HOB emperor 400's and a aquaclear 110 on my 55 and 75 just looking to get a few more and not thin out my filtration much if any on my current running setups.

Thanks all

I guess another potential option could be snag the 2 306's and the Aquatop CF500UV for around $270 vs the Fluval FX6? opinions?

I've never owned the fx series but I have heard a lot of bad things about the build quality. I have a 406 on my 125 right now and I love it. I think the biggest difference between the two is the impellers. The fx impeller is on the bottom making sand and grime get stuck in the housing. The 06 series has the impeller on the top. Just my Two cents. I love the build quality of the 06 series. I recommend them to anyone.

I don't think 2 306's are adequate filtration. I would buy something besides the FX for reason stated above.

I been running fx5s for years with no issues. I dont get why a fx5 filter is a bad filter because it sucks up sand. That just tells me that its a good filter because it is capable of filtering debris as heavy as sand. That is not the canisters fault but the operators fault for having the intake too close to the substrate. The fx5 is just doing its job, filtering whatever comes in its way.

I have two FX5 filters, both were bought used, although the most recently purchased one is a little more beat up than I initially thought it was but they both function noise and problem free.Just about every power filter that I've owned had its motor situated on the bottom of the unit so that location can't be too bad.

Ive ran two for about two and a half years and zero problems. Sure a few minor wear and tear issues like a few of the lid fasteners wearing, but considering this filter runs 24/7 and thats all Ive had to deal with, Im very happy with it.
