Fluval aquasky vs other lights for 75 gallon

Ugh.. LED lights with apps now? Good grief.

Any of the name brands tend to have better quality electronics, solder joints and construction in general.

I've had issues with several Beamswork and Odyssea aquarium lights over the years, both LED and T5HO. It's the build quality and electronics on them that suck.

I really don't get the different settings with all the artificial colors. My ~5yr/old Current Satellite + 48" over my 55g has a remote with a zillion different settings. I set it to something around ~6500K range color/temp years ago and left it. The remote no longer works. I assume the button batteries in it are shot.

I also have a cheap 48" LED strip light over another 55g that's insanely bright with multi colored LEDs. I hate the carnival effect it gives reflecting off the glass tops on the tank.

Sometimes I wonder just how far these led lights are actually going to develop.

There's no doubt about it, lights have come a million miles since tube only days. The options with them are limitless. Remote controlled, blue tooth, apps, even the settings on the lights themselves are crazy. Night time, day time, in between time, customisable colour spectrums, even bloody weather settings such as simulated thunder and lightning!! My remote control handset has more buttons than my TV remote!

I don't know whether all this tech is just a selling point, whether they're all just trying to out do one another, or whether all the functions are practical, and are actually used. Nowadays I just use the daytime and off setting, controlled by a timer. My remote control is redundant.

Thank you guys, I will give aquasky a shot. It's not much costlier than stingray and I can return it if it doesn't work for me.

My experience was lots of trouble connecting to the light, would then disconnect randomly and need to be reconnected which it wouldn't always do. And the finger "button" which is just a touch pad, sometimes works fine, other times will not activate no matter how many times you try. If there is any moisture on your hand it wont work for me. Would chalk it up to just my light but if you read the reviews on amazon there are lots of other people who have had the same problem with the app. Maybe it's hit or miss and I've got a dud, not sure. I'm pretty tech savvy, don't have problems with my reef lights or controllers for example.

What phone were you using at that time?

I have a pre app 4ft Fluval Aquasky led, near four years now. Great light, tho a little weak for plants. Also when taking pictures I have to have it on its brightest mode or it put bars across the pictures. I guess it's actually flickering but so fast we can't see it, but digital cameras can.
