Fluval Evo Saltwater Startup

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Some "emerald" crabs are a different species also. If they have little cups on their pinchers it's an "herbivore" if they end in points not so much. That one has cups....should be good. I say should because all inverts are opportunistic. I agree that the puffer does pose a possible risk. But not all go after the inverts which includes your corals.

The puffer has puffed up a few times but honestly no real aggression from him. I even saw the diamond goby grab his tail one time and he just turned around in shock it was hilarious. They all come to the top now when I shake the pellets, they’re pretty fun to watch

That’s the crazy part. Mine has cups.

Like I said opportunistic. I had to move my nps to another tank because my shrimp and crabs were stealing the food from their mouths. Which in the long run was better for them anyway, more space, just actinic lighting, better flow, no competition. They grew faster and opened more fully. I had three rhizos that started growing "roots" into the 6" dsb, which was pretty unheard of at the time (not sure now). I wish I'd known that before I sold it all.

I hope the shrimp works out for you. I have had a peppermint and a skunk and both just died after a month for unknown reasons.
Seems big enough to last with the puffer for now.

I think I’ve definitely learned Saltwater has the most deaths post introduction, seemingly without any reason.. alive for a week or so and eating etc then will just be rolled over 1 morning.

Yep. Acclimation and Parameters are a thousand times more important than in fresh. So far my salt track record is a lot better than my fresh though...

Meaning to ask what everyone’s water change schedule looks like on these things. I do about 50% every sunday with 1 valentini, two clowns, a diamond goby, a emerald and cleaner - no coral (don’t know if that changes the recommend led amounts?)

I do 30% weekly (every other week occasionally) usually. Lots of coral. 8 hermits, 1 emerald, a pistol, no fish currently. Going to involve a shrimp goby, 2 clowns, and probably a basslet or firefish.
