What's the difference between 354 and the 317? They both look the same except the 317 lacks bio-media at the bottom.

Have you thought about Eheim? The 2260 would work great and be best at biofiltration.

i have had a fx5 and 305 fluval running in a 100g with two ruby red O's at about 5-6" and water is super clear with great parameters. sadly due to jumping ruby reds (beef and cheese) died while i was at work, the tank now has two baby lemon O's at 2-3" and soon to have two fx5's in stead of the the 305 fluval. great filters, only got them for about 180 shipped each.

i got them from ebay from seller "monster-pets-store". i just checked if they had any for sale but none at the moment. but they usually have them available, like at least 9 available. for the price i got no filter media except the foam blocks. all you really need is bio media and like filter floss IMO.

mainly bio media and just a hint of filter floss works great for the fx5. my water is clear with good params.
