Fluval FX5 trapped air/microbubbles

I've set up my FX5 3 days ago and few hours after turning it on its full of air. If I plug and unplug it, it removes air and works fine for some time, but after few hours again it is full of air..

I've seen on the internet that people does some mods to it, but no final one and no really working one. Could anyone offer any solutions or I should just wait?

I filled it with Seachem Matrix alternative (same stuff, different brand) about 2-3 centimeters from the top of all three baskets.

Filter is new, never used, but has no warranty.

Take all your hoses off run the rubber sleeves under hot water clean the hoses out, connect them back and make sure to get the hose all the way into the rubber sleeve, sounds like you have a slow air leak in the plumbing, I had the same problem, easy fix and with the warm water it expands the rubber making it a breeze to re assemble correctly!

Did that. Also applied vaseline on the hose connector gaskets and the place there the slevees attach.



Will post again if I'll be having the same problem. If not, it's fixed and thanks for advices

also do you have bubblers in the tank?

No bubblers, no plants, no co2, no fish.

Just sand and few rocks. Tank is still cycling.

I still have the problem, nothing changed

Make sure your intake hose that connects to the plastic tube\strainers is at least a couple of inches below the water line or else it will suck air in and you will get micro bubbles and gurgling noises....

Try leak testing with a shop vac. Pull the outlet side off of the filter and put the vac hose right on it. Remove the intake hose from the tank and dry it off good. Pull the intake strainer off and block the hose with your hand. Spray some water around all connections and see where it is getting sucked in at.

Hose connections are underwater for good couple of inches. I doubt that I will see anything like that rodger, because it gets air inside to be hearible in about 2 hours time.
